It’s hard enough being and indie author – or indie anything for that matter – but generative AI is making it harder for creatives. It can churn out images and generate books at a rate no human creative can keep up with. Using it is cheating oneself of a skill one could be proud of. It is depriving honest creatives of the potential work they’ve spent lives honing the skills for. It pumps more and more soulless slop and junk out there. It tires us out trying to tell the difference between the human-made and AI-generated. Gen-AI sells human creativity short and will eventually kill the energy we have to produce it if we’re not careful.
We can do this! Say no to GEN-AI in the arts and indie book publishing!
That means we need human-made ads, human-made book covers, human-made promo art and human-made content, and most certainly human-made writing! We can learn to create covers ourselves, our own images, and ads. And if we struggle to, or can’t, find someone we can trust – an artist, an ad content creator – and commission them! It’s an investment not just in one’s own books as an indie publisher, but an investment in humanity and the human condition.
Yes, it may take time, take blood, sweat, and tears, but isn’t that what being human is about?
